Information for Visitors

(1) Opening hours: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

(2) Closed: Tuesdays (open if Tuesday falls on a National Holiday - closed the following day in such cases), year-end / New Year period

*May be open every day in the New Year, Spring and Summer holidays and other peak tourist seasons.

(3) On display: around 100 different species - 500 animals and birds in total

*Changes in display content may be necessary in certain circumstances.

Grassland World

A re-creation of the African savannah, the domain of lions and herbivores.

Forest Floor World

A world of greenery, ponds and streams that is home to many forest animals and birds.

Treetop World

Here you can encounter monkeys, birds and other tree-dwelling jungle creatures.

Our Waterside Community

Some 90 birds across 17 different species occupy this huge 13 meter-high enclosure that covers some 704㎡. Visitors can walk through the enclosure to observe the birds in their natural habitat.

Our Forest Community

This lushly wooded area is home to many familiar small animals, including raccoon dogs, flying squirrels and hares. A Hometown Wildlife Center located in this area fulfills an educational function, operating a program of lectures and hosting displays on small animals, insects and other wildlife found in the local area.

Interactive Zoo

Here, visitors can come into closer contact with familiar small animals and birds. Activities include donkey riding, feeding, and touching and handling a variety of creatures.

Park Zone

This zone features family-oriented attractions including a Ferris wheel and merry-go-round. Children can also play in an adventure playground. Enjoy a picnic at one of the many benches and tables around the grassed area.

"Forest" Restaurant

Our menu ranges from curry and noodle dishes through to hot dogs, other light meals and beverages. Lunch boxes can be prepared for group visitors if booked in advance.

ZOO Shop

Just inside the North and South Gates. Around 1,700 items are available including sweets and other souvenirs, T-shirts, stationery and stuffed toys.

Other services

Baby buggy hire

Baby buggies are available for hire at both the North and South Gates. Cost is 100 yen per day, plus a refundable security deposit of 400 yen. All buggies are "B-style" models. Please note that numbers are limited, and it is not possible to reserve in advance.

Wheelchair hire

Wheelchairs are available free of charge at both the North and South Gates. Please note that numbers are limited, and it is not possible to reserve in advance.

Parenting room

Facilities include an infant changing area, a nursing room, and a sink with hot water for preparing baby formula. Located on level 2 of the Administration Center.

Multi-use lavatory

Features changing facilities for both infants and adults, and an adult-size bed accessible by wheelchair.

Relief station

For use by visitors who feel ill or have fallen or injured themselves within the Park. A variety of standard medication is available.

Lost property

Lost property reports can be filed at the Administration Center. If an item is found, the owner will be contacted as requested when the lost property report was made.

Missing child care and search service

Missing children can be reported to the Administration Center. Staff members stationed around the park can assist in locating a missing child, maintaining radio contact and referring to descriptions of the child provided. We also take custody of lost children at level 1 of the Administration Center.

Access

(1) By car

Kitakyushu Urban Expressway:

Take the Sanji exit, turn right at the Shichijo intersection heading for Kokura. Approx. 3 km.

(2) By Nishitetsu Bus

Adjacent to the "Itozu-no-mori Koen-mae" bus stop.

(3) By JR train

From Fukuoka: Alight at JR Yahata station, then catch the Nishitetsu bus from Nishi-honmachi bus stop located 5 minutes' walk from the station. Bus journey takes approximately 20 minutes.

From Shimonoseki/Moji/Oita: Alight at JR Kokura station. 20 minutes by bus or 10 minutes by taxi from the station.
